The Challenge
For Comic Relief’s Do Something Funny for Money campaign, I was tasked with developing a Facebook application that leveraged Vivienne Westwood’s artwork to maximise social awareness and spread.
The Solution
I created a simple, playful app that allowed Facebook users to place their heads into Westwood’s illustrations and transform into comedy characters. Once finished, participants were prompted to use the image as their profile picture, turning personal involvement into widespread social visibility. The experience balanced Comic Relief’s humour with the cultural weight of Vivienne Westwood, combining lighthearted fun with a high fashion edge.
The Impact
The app spread virally across Facebook, embedding Westwood’s artwork into millions of profiles and turning participants into walking campaign ambassadors. It delivered significant awareness and donations while positioning Comic Relief as an innovator in blending humour, cultural capital, and digital mechanics to drive fundraising at scale.
